Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add page numbers to a PDF?

Drop your PDF above, click where the numbers should go on the little page diagram, pick a format such as "1" or "Page 1 of 10", and click Add page numbers. Use Preview first to check how it looks.

Can I skip the cover page?

Yes. Set "Skip first pages" to 1 to leave the cover unnumbered (or 2 to skip a cover and a table of contents). Numbering then starts on the next page.

Can numbering start at a number other than 1?

Yes. Set "Start numbering at" to any number, which is useful when a PDF is one part of a longer document.

Can I put numbers on alternating sides like a book?

Turn on "Alternate left and right on facing pages" and numbers switch between the outer corners on odd and even pages, as in a printed book.

Do page numbers appear correctly on rotated pages?

Yes. Positions are based on how the page looks to the reader, so a number placed bottom-right appears bottom-right even on landscape or rotated pages.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Page numbers are added in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
